The 85% Solution: How Personal Accountability Guarantees Success

This book by Linda Galindo is extremely useful for educating your managers and employees on accountability and responsibility. She shifts the view of accountability from punishment, fault, blame and guilt to ‘personal accountability’ and uses compelling real life stories to push the message that what that means is being responsible for the outcomes of your choices, behaviours and actions. We have used this book extensively in our leadership team programme and the participants of those programmes have gone on to use it with their direct reports.

As can be the case with these types of books, the message is repeated often. But it’s a good message, worth spreading. We prefer to look at personal responsibility from the 100% perspective but if you can get your people to take on 85% you’ll have an entirely new culture and vastly elevated levels of performance!
