imposter-syndrome-review

The Imposter Syndrome: Becoming an Authentic Leader

This brilliant book by Harold Hillman PhD, is clearly written by someone who has personally been down the self-awareness/enlightenment path. He deals honestly and empathetically with what all leaders must experience at some point in their career, if not often – self-doubt and questioning. If you don’t experience self-doubt you should probably worry because a dose of it now and again can provide a well needed grounding. If you experience it too often it can be incredibly debilitating. In this book you will discover how to recognise what often lies underneath the self-doubt and how to overcome it to become a better leader, confident in your abilities and true to yourself.

Book Review The 85% Solution

The 85% Solution: How Personal Accountability Guarantees Success

This book by Linda Galindo is extremely useful for educating your managers and employees on accountability and responsibility. She shifts the view of accountability from punishment, fault, blame and guilt to ‘personal accountability’ and uses compelling real life stories to push the message that what that means is being responsible for the outcomes of your choices, behaviours and actions. We have used this book extensively in our leadership team programme and the participants of those programmes have gone on to use it with their direct reports.

As can be the case with these types of books, the message is repeated often. But it’s a good message, worth spreading. We prefer to look at personal responsibility from the 100% perspective but if you can get your people to take on 85% you’ll have an entirely new culture and vastly elevated levels of performance!

Review - Accountability the key to driving

Accountability: The Key to Driving a High Performance Culture

Accountability – or people being accountable – is the missing ingredient in delivering on high performance, we see it every day in our work with leaders and their teams. Practiced effectively, accountability is a way of thinking and acting all the time and ultimately trumps any financial, intellectual, structural, or technological ability.

Greg Bustin does a brilliant job in this book of distinguishing his 7 Pillars of Accountability. This is a book you will want to read more than once and refer back to often.
